Righteous Tree is a song that God gave me. The story is long and spans years that were full of other things while this song just kind of sat in the back of my head, but all the while I was praying that God would let me write it. When it finally started coming together it was another long process of fitting analogies and synonyms together in a way that painted the scene that I was looking for, but I must say the process of writing it and seeing how beautifully God pulled the pieces together will always be an encouragement to me.
The song is about how our lives are like a dry worthless field and how God promises to change our lives completely, in the song he promises to plant a mighty oak tree. You listen as he digs up the field and prepares the soil for planting, then cares for that little tree until it is something amazing to behold, and in the same way he takes our lives and nurtures them until his seed of righteousness has grown into a testament to his power and love for what some would have considered a hopeless cause.
“They will be called the oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3
